More ENDA
I'm cheating a little bit and back-dating this post to Oct. 31st since, once again, I realized that I had a fully completed episode ready to go but hadn't posted it.
In this show, I give another update on ENDA and read a blog post that Matt Foreman, the Executive Director of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force had created addressing his experiences with ENDA back in 2004. I also talk about how and why I became involved in the Democratic Party.

Yeah, Jessica, I grok what you're saying about being complimented with "that's such a feminine cough/haircut".
It's like, as a transsexual you're femaleness is suspect and she's doing you a favor by saying "Oh, you cough just like a real girl."
It's kinda like saying to a Mexican, "Oh you're so well spoken" or "You've integrated so well". It's code for "you talk/act white".
Of course those kinds of compliments are rooted in racism because white qualities are treated as compliments. In the same way, saying "You so don't look/sound like a tranny", is a backhanded compliment because it sends the hidden message that being a tranny is bad.
