R. John Tannyhill, III (DDS, MD, PC) is a bigot
You might be looking at that headline and thinking, who?!? Let me explain...
I was looking at the searchable Prop 8 donor list at the LA Times' website and decided to search on Colorado. When the results came up, I held my breath as I looked for family, co-workers, or friends who might have donated to Yes on Prop 8.
Luckily, no one who fit that description appeared on their list. I was, however, mortified to see the oral surgeon my entire family has used - and the one I referred Susan to when she needed some work done this summer - in the top 10 donors from Colorado to Yes on Prop 8 (he was tied for 10th with three other donors). I feel absolutely nauseated that the tremendous amount of money we spent at his office has gone toward supporting the stripping of civil rights from a group of people in a state in which this bigot doesn't even live.
There isn't much I can do about this now except to make sure that he never sees another dime of my or my family's money again. Oh yeah, and to hope this blog entry shows up in any search results on his name when people are researching whether or not to utilize his services. Mr. Tannyhill practices out of Centennial, Colorado.
I will be posting the names of other businesses in Colorado who also deserve to be boycotted due to their bigotry. While the list at the LA Times website isn't all that complete (I couldn't find any of my contributions to No on Prop 8 there), where I can tell that the person(s) who donated own the business they listed as their employer, I'll be listing that here in the next couple of days.

Thank you for posting that link! I did the same kind of search and thankfully didn't find anybody I knew.
I tried searching for top donors from Texas, and that was very depressing: page after page of $5,000 contributions supporting the amendment. I didn't realize how bigoted Texans are in this regard.

It is showing up on web searches, you'll be glad to know. And now that I know, I'll do my best to help you spread the word.

Thanks for your posting. I don't think he's a bigot, everyone has the right to donate to any cause they find just. In fact, I'll gladly skip my way into his office just because (thanks to your blog) I know what kind of man he is.

You're certainly entitled to spend your money wherever you see fit, anonymous. I'm sure you're not the first or last person to come across this post and reach the same conclusion.
My goal with this posting was not to try to get the guy put out of business. He has as much right to his livelihood as any of us. I also didn't have any intention of changing your, his, or anyone else's mind about LGBT equality.
Rather, I thought it was important to put the word out there to people who do care about their money going to someone who has a track record of spending it on bigoted measures such as Prop 8. I felt sick to my stomach when I saw his name on the list of Prop 8 supporters and would like to spare any other pro-equality person the same experience.
